Amsterdam provides a lot of different sorts of jobs. You can work there part time, next to your study for example, or just because you want to have something to do. Why work in The Netherlands? Internationals usually come to The Netherlands for personal reasons. Joana is half-Polish and married with a Polak. The good international jobbing environemt is also mentioned as a reason to come to The Netherlands. “I went to Amsterdam on holiday and fell in love with the city years ago.” he says. He confirms that it is not difficult for Internationals to find work through recruitment agencies. “I looked around online for a bit. After two phone calls I immediately got a contract for two years.” Indeed, Baudoin had done research before and he is concerned with the accounts of Dutch multinationals, even though he does not have much experience in that sector. “The accounts themselves are mainly run by Dutch specialists,” he says. “But if the customer calls to be spoken to in English, then that is always possible.”

Speaking multiple languages is a huge pre. “Language is as a little bonus an gives me half of what I earn,” Baudoin laughs. “In addition, I was given a choice of fully furnished apartment which they also pay for another three months a year.” Baudoin joked afterwards that he regrets not having negotiated in the beginning. “When I just arrived, I asked Polish family and friends what a reasonable salary was in Holland. They said I should ask for 3,000 euros, “so when I was offered 4500, I went a little too eager on that. I was the lowest paid Frenchman in the department, “he laughs.
